Well, to be blunt, this is. A mix of things. I aim to showcase my go-to websites for "old web" graphics and whatnot, tips for coding your own webpage and customization, recomendations for a variety of websites and softwares I personally love, how to customize icons, cursors, desktops, some general things I like- ultimately, I want this to be a glossary of sorts. I think thats what glossary means. This isn't meant to be a how-to guide on how to be peak yk2-pilled and frutiger aero-maxxing or whatever. I don't want you to come away from this thinking that you have to act exactly LIKE me, or like everything I do. I want you to take these resources, take my suggestions, see what sticks, and go from there.

Now, when you weren't looking, I changed the background into hatsune miku because i think miku is awesome. now you may be asking me, where the fuck did I get this image of miku from. well. i dont know the artist but i know the website i got it from!!! wow! in fact, im revealing to you all of my devious little image locationing secrets!!! you can use these for profiles, laptop backgrounds, edits, literally anywhere where you can include images. I'll also talk about blinkies and stamps and stuff while we're here!
for the record, i primarily rely on these sites because they're both reliable (for me at least! either way im not taking my chances with AI appearing in google search results) and they provide WORKING LINKS to said images. This is especially helpful when it comes to saving space on neocities, or you want to customize your page (applicable with spacehey and I'M ASSUMING old youtube copycats, i think. dont take my word for it.) In cases where that doesn't apply, I download the edits I make, and upload them onto an image sharing website (for me, its private tumblr uploads. i could never figure out how imgur works. Im sure some of you probs can, lol)

An AMAZING reposatory for basically a million and one different old web style gifs and wallpapers and stuff. yknow the kind you would see on a picmix. or a nightcore video idk. plus blinkies, dividers, headers, the WORKS. they even have a text generator! I have yet to mess with it but it looks really silly in a good way. only downside is semi-niche interests are harder to find graphics for, and they have an AI image catagory (but its seperate from everything else, thank GOD), but if you want a general theme, this one gets my vote.

This is basically like the swiss army knife of funny gifs. you can turn videos into gifs, add glitter to it, flashing stuff, but a border around images, there's a million and one things and I havent even tried them all!!! I mostly use it for the glitter text generator (see: the header of this page), but but this page is a real gem.

ya see this little guy? I bet you're wondering how this little guy is on my puter, eh? no, hes not a shiminji (even though those are also really cool), hes actually a cursor!!! See, as of late, I've been revamping the look of my desktop a little bit (alongside, yknow, wallpapers and stuff), and in the process I have realized that you CAN customize your desktop icons, personal icons, and cursors, and also that life is beautiful and its all going to be ok one way or another. In general, this section is meant to teach you HOW to modify icons + cursors, and give you resources for both!
Getting Cursors and Icons
There's a handful of websites im GOING to link down here that let you download cursors and icons. And for the record, YES they have to be in a specific file format. (for cursors its .cur if its a stagnant image, or .ani if its a small animation loop. for icons its .ico) Thankfully there's online converters out there! They have limited uses per day, but there's ways to get around that (incognitio mode). I primarily use that method for icons, given that i feel like icons are a lot more versatile (in terms of what kind of images you can select for them, how big the images can be, ect.) compaired to cursors. Anything can be converted into an icon, really, as long as the dimensions fit, and it works in terms of visibility.
Uploading Them Onto Your Computer
Once you've got all your cursors and icons downloaded, I'd suggest putting them into seperate folders (one for cursors, one for icons), either on your downloads, desktop, anywhere that's easily accessible. This is mostly so they don't get lost in your computer/it's easy to track them down, in case you want to change something later on.
Now, you go into settings, select personalization, and then select themes. If you're a windows user, you should find yourself on a page like this
Click on one of the icons/select the icon, click "change icon", and a window like this should pop up.
the first one showcases the shortcut customizing tab, the second one showcases the folder customizing tab!
and as for cursors, if you select cursor customization, this should pop up. Open your cursor folder, and follow the same process that you did with the icons, and make sure that the names line up/you keep track of what each cursor variation means! (ie: which cursor variation is the normal select? which one is the link select? which one is the text select? if you're making your own custom cursors, make sure to keep the file names distinct! if you're downloading it online, it'll either serve as a normal select, or the file names will tell you which cursor variation is which)
once you got all that under control, then you did it, you customized your icons and/or cursor for the first time ever!!!! good job, im so proud of you!!!

For the record this section also exists as a somewhat dumping ground for some more general old web/frutiger aero websites and blogs I like, but I couldn't really put them into any of the other planned catagories solely because they're............ well general. BUT I do wanna also use this as a chance to discuss my personal philosophy with these aesthetics!!!
Now you may be asking me, "queenie why do you even feel compelled to do that, this is a resources page, not a COLLEGE LECTURE" (the worlds loudest laugh track plays) and to that I say!! Yes. But also I have a lot of thoughts and feelings about- really any aesthetic that can fall under "nostalgic" or hell, maybe even "nostalgia bait". As much as I love a lot of said aesthetics, and Frutier Argo is really just a massive stew OF these nostalgic pages and technology and images and games and websites and whatnot, I do have a few gripes of how they're interpreted in the grander sphere of things.
Am I saying that every single instance of Frutiger Aero/Metro and Y2K and Scenecore (or Scene) and Old Web posting or whatever IS nostalgia bait? NO, of course not!!!!!! that'd be really stupid. But what I AM saying is that with these aesthetics, and the place they have in internet culture, there is a SHIT ton of nostalgia baiting. And obviously, nostalgia isn't BAD per say, it's a natural feeling and all! But I feel like with how its so amplified nowadays, theres a lack of motivation to shape and define the NOW, if that makes sense.
Literally the closest I've ever gotten to the Real Ass Old Web/Web 1.0 and 2.0 was the fact that my parents met through some RPG chatroom game thingy. Back when computers were limited to console commands, I think. All I knew as a little baby Queenie was my dad didn't like Facebook, MySpace was a punchline, DeviantArt was scary because inflation fetish porn, Snapchat existed and everyone loved it for some reason, Youtube was ok, Tumblr was awesome but also it wasn't and then the porn ban happened, and Instagram was for vapid fucks. Now, as a legal adult, I uhhh fucking hate all of them (/JOKE). Ok but FR the only platform I can remotely stand at this rate is Youtube and that's through super heavily cultivating my experience. All of this is to say- I never really knew what the "good ol days" for Scene, Frutiger Aero, Y2K, and Old Web were like. I never lived through them. Or I was busy being in Elementary School and playing touys. I just had to take other peoples words for it.
And I felt like this for a good while, dead convinced that the future was hopeless, and I had missed out on my one chance at having a good present and future because I was born in the post 9/11 era. It ended up seeping into a lot of my converations as well. I basically would just endlessly lament about how the internet was shit and everything was shit, and how I yearned for a time I could not have. And this lasted on and off for a couple of months (hell, probably even longer than that, it would come and go in bursts, to so speak), and I finally managed to break the cycle through my girlfriend pointing out to me that if I WAS a 90s or 2000s teen, then we wouldn't have been able to meet, become friends, and eventually becomes girlfriends through it confessing his love to me while we watched a DaThings Captian Crunch YTP. And I was like "Oh shit hes right"
When I look at posts about Frutiger Aero, a theme seems to crop up quite a bit. A theme of a robbed future. As if Frutiger Aero failed to fulfill its promise of a glossy, glassy future, and as such, we can never get it back. I think back to how deeply I mourned my own "missed past", how I wasn't there at the right time, and as such, I thought I was done for. And I can't help but wonder- well, what's stopping you from making that future real?
Now of course, I'm not asking people to change the ENTIRE world, that's fucking insane. Rather, I'm talking about their own lives- their own sphere of influence. I firmly believe that nowadays, we've hit a point where people are constantly told that they can't shape their own experiences. That everything is out of their control, even their own lives, time, and interests. Because the people in power who feed off of manpulation and stepping on the backs of others want people to feel helpless. And yes this is slightly political but I mean this moreso in the sense of- people are actively discouraged from bettering their lives. From persuring what they love. From indulging and customizing everything that they can. From taking risks, from learning, from doing- anything, really.
Is it a shame that Frutiger Aero fell out of style in favor of that one boring flat blobby artstyle and minimalism stuff? Is it a shame that bedazzling isn't as openly popular as it was? Yes, yes it is. But it's not like its out of your grasp!!! Nothing is stopping you from taking the time to reset your watch history and CUT the slop out of your life! Nothing is stopping you from customizing your PC's wallpapers to BE Frutiger Aero themed!!! Nothings stopping you from taking old clothes that don't fit anymore or are all worn out and repurposing them! If you want to do something, even if you don't have 50 dollars or something, or you feel like it's going to suck, just fucking go for it ANYWAY. Your interests or perfered aesthetics might not be mainstream, but that doesn't mean that you have to follow suit. And I'm not going to lie and say that this is an easy thing to do! But it'll make you happier in the long run. No one's stolen that Frutiger Aero future from you. As long as you live, you can choose what to include in your future. And I'm proud of you. And I love you.
